Multimedia Authoring
Audio
Audio in the classroom is a fun way to engage students in the lesson. Submitting an audio file on a school blog or webpage makes it accessible to students when they go home. This is especially useful because it allows students to replay the message an unlimited amount of times. English language learners and students who struggle with reading can benefit from audio because it allows them to listen to the message instead of having to read it elsewhere.
Audacity is a free, easy-to-use, audio editor and recorder that can be downloaded onto any PC or MAC. You can use Audacity to record live audio, cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together and so much more! Audacity saves in a variety of file formats- MP3 for new units and WAV for older devices.
Video
Using videos in the classroom helps students retain more information, and grasp concepts quicker. Video allows students to see pictures and real life examples of class room topics, in a way similar to a field trip. Children with a variety of learning styles can benefit from video in the classroom, especially visual learners, and auditory learners. With video as one component in a thoughtful lesson plan, students can make new connections between curriculum topics, and discover links between these topics and the world outside the classroom.
