Instructional Software
Instructional software differs from Productivity software in that it focuses on the content of the subjects instead of making things or products. Instructional software uses Drill and Practice, Tutorials, Simulations, Instructional Games, and Problem Solving to focus on content knowledge. A few examples of Instructional Software are Coaches Eye, Brainpop, Teachers Assistant, and Teach PE. Each of these sites provide learning and/or teaching resources for the students and teachers. They can be beneficial in providing assessments, feedback, differentiation (customizable lessons) and student engagement. As well as, supporting student acquisition through ISTE NETS-S, Engaged Learning Indicators, Bloom's taxonomy, and LoTi Level 3.
Instructional Software has promising trends for students including: Active Gaming, Multiuser Capabilities, Adaptive Instruction, Customizable Lessons, Assessment reporting, Safety/Privacy Features, Mobil Device Accessibility, and Multiple Languages. I encourage you to look at my example of an instructional software lesson (attached below) for teaching sixth graders about tobacco use. It includes a BrainPOP video and quiz in which the students can access from the classroom, home or a personal device to review what was discussed and taught in the classroom. It is a fun way for them to review without having to worry about loosing the information.

BrainPop is an educational website loaded with over 1,000 short animated movies for students in grades K-12 (ages 6 to 17), together with quizzes and related materials, covering the subjects of science, social studies, English, mathematics, engineering and technology, health, and arts and music.
BrainPop is used to help students with introductory concepts by engaging learners in games, animated movies and activities. Every subject is designed with reverence, depth, and humor to engage kids on their unique learning paths. Overall, it is a great tool to have in the classroom.
